treff (german for informal gathering, hangout, get-together) is an ongoing series of music events1. the premise is simple: at each treff a musician or artist is invited to play, perform, improvise: to essentially share their practice. at each treff, i ask a different friend to cook food for everyone in attendance (visitors & artists). visitors are invited by hand-printed postcards that are send via mail. the postcards are created by my collaborator ericka villatoro.

while treffs premise is simple, the questions it raises are complex & long-term research: how can we create spaces that aren’t about showcasing excellence, convincing objects, competition? instead, how can we create spaces that are about collective activity, mutual support, warmth & community? how can we blend art into life?
from 2023-2024, I initiated treff. since 2025, theo voerste took over the project.↩︎
